MEET THE FOUNDER

Kanihya Glover is currently a senior at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.  After the death of her cousin Kyndall Myers, she established Broken Concrete DC. Initially, she aspired to be a Crime Scene Investigator, but quickly recognized that being a crime scene investigator would affect her mental and emotional well being.

In  2018, Kanihya lost her cousin Domoni (Booga) Gaither, when she was just eleven years old. Domoni was Kanihya's first exposure to gun violence and after losing him, she struggled with expressing herself and maintaining her social skills for the remainder of her childhood. Four years later in 2022, another cousin, Kyndall, was murdered and right then is when Kanihya realized something had to be done.

In October 2022, Kanihya started working on Broken Concrete DC.  Unfortunately, soon after, Kanihya's middle school classmate, Akira Wilson suddenly perished in November just three weeks after Kanihya started working to spread prevention under BCDC.

.

Kanihya found solace in helping the people and streets of DC by organizing town halls, providing programs, and more as part of her determination to find meaning in her life's sorrow. Kanihya seeks to avoid gun violence by encouraging healing, unity in the community, and youth development as the founder of Broken Concrete DC.
